HYLA'S PARENTS: GARRETT AND JANE HARDIN

Our hearts are with Hyla especially now, as since this visit, Hyla has had the difficult task of dealing with the death of her dear parents, both in their 80's. Hyla's Dad, Garrett Hardin, was a well respected ecological thinker, most famous for his 1968 essay, 'The Tragedy of the Commons.' He was emeritus professor of human ecology at UCSB where he taught for for thirty years, until his retirement in 1978. Both Garrett and his wife Jane were generous lovers and supporters of people and music. Jane Hardin created a beautiful warm family home and garden in Santa Barbara where family and friends gathered for many years sharing lively intellectual and artistic exchange. Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 25 at 1:30 PM at the Unitarian Society, 1535 Santa Barbara Street in Santa Barbara. In lieu of flowers memorial donations are sincerely appreciated to: Planned Parenthood (PP of SN, V, SLO), 518 Garden Street, Santa Barbara, 93101 or The Music Academy of the West, 1070 Fairway Road, Santa Barbara 93108
