AUTUMN FINDS RICK AND KATHY
AT NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY IN EVANSTON

Near Chicago, October 22 to 26

We found ourselves in the hands of autumn here in the midwest, a watery wonderland of beautiful colors.

Rick is lecturing at the Special Session on Extremal Conbinatorics, and gave his presentation today: Incidence matrices and applications to a zero-sum Ramsey problem.

While Rick talked the world around us was wild, wet and windy...

But here in the opposite extremal world everything was in order.

Laszlo Babai took the opportunity to invite Rick to lecture at the University of Chicago on Tuesday, before we leave, so we will check out of our hotel on Tuesday morning, and drive to the airport after our visit there.

Kathy counted on her fingers

did portraits of mathematicians during the lectures

and posed patiently in her autumn Chicago costume.

A special reward for being here was a wonderful evening alone with our niece Elizabeth Wilson at the "Dragon Inn North" a fantastic Chinese restaurant in nearby Glenview. It was a sweet reunion with her.

We are having a great experience here but we are already getting homesick for 'Autumn in Pasadena'.

Here we were a few days before we left...now isn't that more like us???

We're blowing kisses home, now... we miss you!!

See you soon, California!
