Victor Mahillon's Hints on the Fingering of the Boehm Flute, 1884

This pamphlet was published by C. Mahillon & Co., London, in 1884. Mahillon discusses harmonics, venting, and the theory of the fingering of the Boehm flute. "It is evident", he says, "that an instrument can be admirably played without the performer's ever having troubled himself with the principle of its construction; but, in this case, there is the risk of his repeating, and propagating in his turn, the innumerable errors and prejudices which spring from purely mechanical work."
